Collectible Figure Design for 3D Printing

A bit of background on the project: A 3D sculptor friend wanted to start producing a small series of collectible figures for his tabletop gaming buddies. It’s always cool to see 2D designs translated into 3D models, so I joined in on the fun by providing some concept art. This page details my designs for the duo Mettle & Wojan, a Dwarven warrior woman and her armored bear companion.

This is Mettle, the Dwarven warrior woman from the western border territories who rides an armored bear. Her equipment is powered by magical charges created by a wizard ally. The creative direction for Mettle’s design was to combine western cowboy with techno-viking. It was an interesting challenge to combine the two!

Model sheet for Mettle. Techno-viking-cowgirl-dwarf-warrior with a power gauntlet! Because why not?

Model sheet for Wojan, Mettle’s armored bear companion and mount. As with Mettle, Wojan’s armor is powered by magical charges provided by a wizard ally. The name of Wojan was inspired by Wojtek, the historical Russian “ammo bear” from WW2. As a character duo, Wojan’s design needed to mirror Mettle’s equipment.

Hairstyle Iterations. The intent of the character design was to reflect the combination of Wild West and Nordic aesthetics. (And yes, dwarf women have facial hair!)

Iterations on equipment/costume for Mettle. First and foremost, the design needed to combine the ideas of futuristic-viking and outback-dwarf. Was Mettle more cowgirl or more bandit? These early sketches explored more of the Viking-Wild-West combo.
